Nicht einen find’ ich hier, Gespräch zu pflegen
Von jenem Herrn, an dem gleich dir ich hange,
Und so genüg’ ich schreibend diesem Drange,
Das, was ich Gutes denke, darzulegen.

Entschuldigen bei dir soll nichts mich wegen
Des Schweigens, war’s auch unhöflich und lange –
Nur dieser Ort: sein Elend macht mir bange.
Kein Bürger mag das Gute bei sich hegen;

Nicht Frau’n sind hier, die sich der Minne weihten,
Kein Mann seufzt je allhier um holde Gnaden,
Und tät’ er es, würd’ es ihm Spott bereiten.

Verwandelt, Meister Cino, sind die Zeiten
Zu unserem und unserer Lieder Schaden –
Das Gute wird verschmäht von allen Seiten.
