Anna de Noailles

Anna de Noailles

1876–1933

Anna de Noailles (1876–1933) was a French poet and novelist of Romanian and Greek descent, born in Paris as Princess Anna Bibesco-Bassaraba de Brancovan. Her salon was frequented by Proust, Cocteau, Colette and Valéry.

Her collections, beginning with Le Cœur innombrable (1901), celebrate nature, love and the passing of time with great sensual intensity. She was the first woman to be made a commander of the Légion d’honneur and the first woman received into the Royal Academy of Belgium.
