• Adieu, adieu! my native shore
      Fades o’er the waters blue;
    The night-winds sigh, the breakers roar,
      And shrieks the wild sea-mew.
    Yon sun that sets upon the sea
      We follow in his flight;
    Farewell awhile to him and thee,
      My native Land—Good Night!

    A few short hours, and he will rise
      To give the morrow birth;...

  • It chanced to me upon a time to sail
      Across the Southern ocean to and fro;
    And, landing at fair isles, by stream and vale
      Of sensuous blessing did we ofttimes go.
    And months of dreamy joys, like joys in sleep,
      Or like a clear, calm stream o’er mossy stone,
    Unnoted passed our hearts with voiceless sweep,
      And left us yearning still...

  • This is the joy-inspiring day

    That gave these blessings to our lot

    Then let us share the social rites

    Join hands, all malice be forgot!

    This little star, once marked by none

    Now shines a bright - a BLAZING SUN!
